WICHITA — Every year, teens in Cowley, Sedgwick, and Sumner Counties take a crucial step toward a safe future in agriculture. Mark your calendars for Thursday, May 28th, 2026! If you're 14 or 15 years old seeking to work on farms for someone other than their parents or guardians, you’ll need to complete a tractor safety course mandated by the U.S. Department of Labor.

To receive certification, students will be required to complete independent coursework, a driving test administered by their employer, and an in-person class. The course will cover safe tractor and machine operations. Open to other interested youth aged 13 and older. (Certification will not be issued until age 14 and driving hours are completed.)

But don’t worry—Cowley, Sedgwick, and Sumner Counties have teamed up to offer this vital course! This program equips young workers with the skills they need to handle equipment safely and confidently. Not only does it meet federal standards, but it also prepares you for the exciting and responsible world of farm work, with a strong focus on safety at every step. Get ready to embrace your role in agriculture and learn the ropes with us!
