WICHITA – The Sedgwick County Extension Master Gardeners invite the community to the 2026 Spring Garden Fair on Saturday, May 2. This year’s theme, “Lettuce Help You Grow: Vegetables, Fruits, Flowers & More!” highlights practical ways residents can grow their own food and garden plants at home. The event comes just as many gardeners begin planning and planting their spring gardens.

The family-friendly event will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in 4-H Hall at the Sedgwick County Extension Education Center, 7001 W. 21st Street North in Wichita (southeast corner of 21st and Ridge Road). Admission is free, and attendees can pick up free vegetable seeds, while supplies last.

The Spring Garden Fair features educational booths and hands-on activities, designed to inspire gardeners of all skill levels, as the spring planting season begins.

“Our goal is to provide timely gardening education that helps residents learn the essential practices for growing healthy, productive gardens,” says Abbey Draut, K-State Extension Sedgwick County horticulture agent. “Through educational and interactive booths, visitors can explore practical gardening techniques and get ideas they can use at home.”

Attendees will learn practical methods for planting and caring for fruits, vegetables, and flowers, helping them create productive and enjoyable gardens. Educational booths will cover topics such as starting plants from seed, soil health, drip irrigation systems, efficient watering practices, when and where to plant, raised-bed gardening, and plants that support pollinators.

Additional activities throughout the event include plant sales, food sales, composting demonstrations, and a “make-and-take” microgreens youth activity. Attendees are encouraged to stop by the Master Gardener Hotline booth, where experienced Master Gardeners will answer plant questions and provide research-based resources to help solve common gardening problems. Visitors can also connect with local garden clubs, including the Daylily Society, the Herb Society, the Hosta Society, and others, and learn more about gardening groups and opportunities available in the community.

The Spring Garden Fair helps community members gain practical gardening knowledge and the confidence to start growing at home while encouraging families to experience the benefits of gardening together.
