Commercial Horticulture Professionals from Across Kansas to Gather for Annual Training Workshop

WICHITA – The K-State Extension office in Sedgwick County will once again bring together commercial horticulture professionals from across Kansas for its annual 2026 Commercial Pesticide Applicator Training Workshop. The workshop provides science-based education and the latest industry information to help commercial pesticide applicators maintain certification, strengthen technical expertise, and stay current on evolving regulations and best management practices.
The workshop will be held Wednesday, November 18, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Sedgwick County Extension Education Center, 7001 W. 21st Street N. in Wichita. Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m.
Designed for horticulture professionals who manage lawns, landscapes, trees, golf courses, public parks, and athletic fields, the full-day workshop offers practical training on current pesticide application practices, safety, and regulatory updates. Participants will gain valuable knowledge that helps protect public health and the environment while improving the quality and effectiveness of the services they provide.
Kansas law requires anyone who commercially applies pesticides to control weeds, insects, plant diseases, or other pests to be certified through the Kansas Department of Agriculture. Certified applicators must renew their licenses every three years by completing continuing education requirements. Workshops like this provide an opportunity to earn required credits while learning about the latest research, application techniques, and industry developments.
Hosted by K-State Extension in Sedgwick County, the Commercial Pesticide Applicator Training Workshop is one of the largest continuing education opportunities for commercial pesticide applicators in south-central Kansas. Educational sessions will address the identification and management of weeds, insects, vertebrate pests, and plant diseases, along with sprayer calibration, tank mixing practices, and updates to Kansas pesticide laws and regulations as they relate to turfgrass and ornamental landscapes. Participants can earn up to 6 continuing education credits in Category 3A (Ornamentals), 5 credits in Category 3B (Turf Pest Control), and 1 Core credit toward Kansas commercial pesticide applicator license renewal. Attendees certified through the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) may also receive up to 8 continuing education units (CEUs).
Early registration is $70 per person through November 4, 2026. Beginning November 5, registration increases to $85 per person. Registration closes Wednesday, November 11, 2026. Participants can register online here.
