Nutrition, Health, and Wellness

We focus on behavior changes to improve overall health and wellness. Our goal is to provide education that improves health, reduces the risk of chronic disease, and improves quality of life for Sedgwick County residents.

Here are some programs we offer:

Dining with Diabetes - Participants will learn how to manage diabetes through proper nutrition and physical activity, while taste testing healthy recipes. Classes are offered at various times throughout the year and meet once a week (2 hours) for 4 weeks.

Diabetes: You Are in Control - Did you know that with healthful eating and modest regular physical activity, type 2 diabetes can be delayed, controlled, or even prevented? This presentation is for those with type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, and caregivers of those living with diabetes and will touch on the seven self-care behavior steps to managing your diabetes. This is a one-hour presentation available upon request.

Healthy Body, Healthy Brain - What you eat, how much you move, how well you sleep, and how you manage your stress affect nearly every aspect of your well-being, including your physical and mental health. This presentation will touch on several ways to protect the health of your body and brain through nutrition, physical activity, and stress management.

Healthy Eating on a Budget - When food prices are high and money is tight, buying groceries can become a challenge for many people. Planning meals and snacks is one of the best ways to stick to your food budget all while incorporating more fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. This one-hour presentation will provide tips and tricks for healthy eating on a budget and is available upon request.

Preserve it Fresh, Preserve it Safe - Would you like to learn how to make pickles, salsa or jam? Our hands-on classes cover water bath canning garden produce for future use. Classes are offered late spring and into the summer.

Walk Kansas - This springtime program encourages participants to get active and take a virtual walk around our great state.

Walk with Ease - Walking is one of the safest forms of physical activity to assist in pain management for those who have arthritis or other chronic health conditions. Walk With Ease is a 6-week program designed to help you reduce pain and discomfort, improve balance, strength, and stamina, learn how to walk safely and comfortably as well as improve your overall health.
