Sedgwick County Extension Resources COVID-19 - Utility Assistance and Programs 

General Assistance

The Salvation Army has partnered with the Wichita Community Foundation to offer utility assistance to families in Sedgwick County amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Funding will be available on April 1. Individuals interested in applying for Stand With Wichita can call The Salvation Army at 316-263-2769 ext. 148.

Electricity and Natural Gas 

Kansas Gas Service is temporarily suspending disconnects due to nonpayment through April 15. Options to make payments or set up alternative payment plans if facing financial difficulties. Call 1-800-794-4780 to discuss short-term payment extensions and long-term payment assistance.

Black Hills Energy is temporarily suspending non-payment disconnections for customers.  Payment arrangements, budget billing and medical extensions are available, visit their website or call, 1-888-890-5554.

Evergy has extended payment options with customer service available to help walk through payment plans (even for those on plans currently). No late payment fees until May 1 (for residential or small business customers). No power disconnections related to nonpayments (for residential or small business customers). Reduced payments for reconnecting service with no security deposit. If you've been disconnected for nonpayment, you'll only need to pay 1/12 of your balance.

Water and Sewer

The City of Wichita has suspended water utility shut offs until April 15, and will work with those who are behind on their bill. To set up a payment plan, call 316-265-1300. 

Internet

The Federal Communications Commission has launched the Keep Americans Connected Pledge, urging internet service providers to make special accommodations in the wake of the COVID-19 situation. What follows is a list of links to several companies' responses. This list does not imply endorsement, nor is it exhaustive.
